The Father Aloysius Beebwa Support Group
Father Aloysius is from Uganda, a priest in the order of the Society of the Missionaries of Africa, or White Fathers. We first met him when he officiated at Easter at Cefn Lea some ten years ago, while here on study leave. He now lives in Uganda
Life is difficult over there. Those of us who hear from Aloysius regularly know that he is bombarded with phone calls requesting help with school or higher education fees, and money to pay medical bills. It is hard for us to imagine how chaotic life is in Uganda, where medicines and education have to be paid for by people who are struggling and desperate.
Aloysius frequently talks of being overwhelmed.
After the Summer Gathering in 2021, a group of LCSB members formed a support group. We meet once a quarter on zoom, to share news and to pray for him. We agreed to take on the support of two named students – this seemed manageable, and at least we would be relieving Aloysius’ burdens a little bit.

The group isn’t just about sending money – we take it in turns to write to him, and discuss any other ways we might help.
We send our donations via the White Fathers. Some of us have set up standing orders and others have donated in other ways. Fr Starkey of the White Fathers sends us regular updates on how much we have raised as a group. None of us know how much anyone else has donated.
